Scarbrough Court goes back in time

29th September 2018

After a brief meeting, attended by over 30 brethren, the lodge was then closed and opened up to the rest of the residents, staff and visitors, swelling the numbers to over 60. The assembled guests were then treated to a demonstration of the working of part of a degree ceremony from 1823, including full period dress, by the Northumberland Masonic Demonstration Team.

Also in attendance were a large number of members of the Northumberland Chapter of the Widows Sons, including their travelling bear Hiram, and a wide variety of motorcycles.
The Northumberland Masonic Demonstration Team and the Widows Sons dispelled some myths in connection with Freemasonry in general, during a question and answer session, and advised the assembled number that the biggest secret in Freemasonry was the amount of Charitable giving made to both Masonic and Non Masonic Organisations.

Many thanks to Percy Lodge for organising such an enjoyable afternoon, the Northumberland Masonic Demonstration Team for their demonstration, the Northumberland Chapter of the Widows Sons for their motorcycles and the Association of the Friends of Scarbrough Court.

The Association of the Friends of Scarbrough Court are looking for lodges wishing to hold an extra meeting for the Masonic residents. If you feel that your lodge could assist please make contact with the Association of the Friends of Scarbrough Court.
